Our history

With decades of experience, HFR has grown through independence and innovation, building strong foundations while advancing science globally.

A legacy of chemistry-first specialist support

For more than three decades, HFR has combined independence, investment and innovation to support science that makes a difference. From our beginnings in the North of England, we have grown steadily by reinvesting in people, facilities and technology, always with a focus on delivering the highest standards of chemistry.

Purpose-built facilities

Our journey has been defined by purposeful investment. The manufacturing facility in Bowburn, UK, was designed to provide the control and precision needed for multi-stage synthesis to regulatory standards, supported by dedicated QA and QC functions. More recently, the opening of our R&D laboratories at NETPark in Sedgefield, UK, expanded our capacity for collaborative research, strengthening our ability to partner with discovery groups, start-ups and academic innovators.

Independence at the core

Throughout this growth, we have remained true to our independent, director-led model. This gives our clients confidence that our priorities are aligned with theirs, free from external pressures or conflicts of interest.

A reputation built on experience

Today, HFR’s history is reflected in a reputation for dependable, flexible support across pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, polymers, imaging agents and fine chemicals. By combining decades of experience with an agile approach, we continue to help clients progress science with clarity, confidence and long-term vision.
